Welcome to Kerala! After you land at Cochin International Airport, we'll whisk you away to Alleppey, about a two-hour drive. You'll check into a lovely waterfront hotel – your home for the next two nights. On your first evening, let's stretch our legs with a stroll along Alleppey Beach. Feel the sand between your toes and watch the sun dip below the horizon – it's the perfect way to shake off any travel tiredness! The next day, we'll dive into Alleppey town. First stop: Mullakkal Temple. This beautiful Hindu temple is a feast for the eyes with its intricate carvings. Next, we'll climb the Alappuzha Lighthouse for stunning views of the town and sea. Fancy learning about one of Kerala's most famous industries? We'll pop into the Coir Museum to see how coconut fibres are transformed into rugs and mats.
Now for the main event – your houseboat adventure! These traditional boats, called 'kettuvallams', were once used to transport rice and spices. Now, they're floating hotels, and you'll be living on one for the next two days. As we cruise along, you'll see life on the backwaters up close. We'll glide past lush paddy fields, coconut groves, and tiny villages. Keep your eyes peeled for kingfishers darting across the water! We'll stop at a village to see how coir (coconut fibre) is made into rope – it's fascinating stuff. Your crew will whip up delicious Kerala meals right on board. Think fresh fish curry, fluffy rice, and tropical fruits. At night, you'll sleep peacefully on the gently rocking boat, lulled by the sounds of nature.
After saying goodbye to your houseboat crew, we're off to Kumarakom, just a short 30-minute drive away. This little slice of paradise is known for its bird sanctuary, which we'll visit bright and early one morning. Binoculars at the ready – you might spot egrets, herons, and if you're lucky, the elusive Siberian Stork! The rest of your time in Kumarakom is all about relaxation. Your lakeside resort offers heavenly Ayurvedic spa treatments. Why not try a traditional massage to work out any knots? For early risers, we can arrange a sunrise boat ride on Vembanad Lake – it's a photographer's dream!
Next up is Mararikulam, home to one of Kerala's most beautiful beaches. It's just a 30-minute drive from Kumarakom. Here, you can really slow down and soak up the laid-back coastal vibes. Fancy trying your hand at fishing? We can arrange for you to join some local fishermen as they cast their nets. It's a great way to experience a slice of daily life here. We'll also visit the nearby Kokkamangalam Church, one of seven churches believed to have been founded by St. Thomas the Apostle.
For your final full day, we're heading back to where it all began – Alleppey. But this time, we're going off the beaten path with a guided village tour. You'll meet local artisans, see traditional houses, and maybe even try your hand at cooking a Kerala dish! On your last morning, there's time for one more cultural stop: Krishnapuram Palace. This 18th-century palace is home to fascinating murals and antiques. Then, it's time to head to the airport for your flight home, with your head full of wonderful Kerala memories!
