Board your overnight flight from London Heathrow to Delhi. Get some rest on the plane – your adventure begins tomorrow!
Arrive in Delhi and catch your connecting flight to Bagdogra. Meet your guide and drive to Darjeeling (about 3 hours). Check into your hotel and relax for the evening. If you're not too tired, take a stroll around the town to get your bearings.
Wake up early to catch the sunrise at Tiger Hill – the views of the Himalayas are breathtaking! Ride the famous Darjeeling Toy Train to Ghum Monastery. Visit a tea plantation and learn how the world-famous Darjeeling tea is made. Explore the vibrant local markets and try some momos (dumplings). Take a peaceful walk through the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park. Don't miss the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Center to see beautiful handicrafts.
After breakfast, drive to Gorumara National Park (about 4 hours). Check into your jungle lodge and freshen up. Go on an evening safari in the park. Keep your eyes peeled for Indian rhinos, elephants, and maybe even a leopard! Enjoy a campfire dinner and share your wildlife spotting stories.
Early breakfast before a long drive to Kaziranga National Park in Assam (about 8 hours). Stop at local villages along the way to stretch your legs and see rural life. Arrive at Kaziranga in the evening and check into your lodge. Relax and prepare for your wildlife adventures tomorrow.
Rise with the sun for morning safaris in different zones of the park. Look out for the famous one-horned rhinoceros – Kaziranga is home to two-thirds of the world's population! You might also spot wild elephants, water buffaloes, and swamp deer. Keep your binoculars handy for colourful bird species. In the afternoon, visit a nearby tea estate to see how Assam tea is produced. End your days with hearty dinners and talks from local naturalists.
After breakfast, drive to Nameri National Park (about 4 hours). Check into your eco-camp on the outskirts of the park. Go for an afternoon bird watching walk with an expert guide. Look out for hornbills, kingfishers, and many other species. Enjoy a simple dinner under the stars at your camp.
Start your day with an exciting river rafting trip on the Jia-Bhoreli River. Keep an eye out for gharials (fish-eating crocodiles) sunning on the banks. After lunch, take a jungle walk with a naturalist. Learn about the park's flora and fauna, and maybe spot some wildlife. End your day with a cozy bonfire and swap stories with fellow travellers.
Say goodbye to Nameri and drive to Guwahati (about 5 hours). Visit the sacred Kamakhya Temple, an important pilgrimage site. In the evening, take a relaxing sunset cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra River. Watch the city lights come on as you enjoy dinner on board.
Catch a morning flight to Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. After checking into your hotel, go on an afternoon city tour. Visit the impressive Victoria Memorial and learn about India's colonial history. Stop at Mother House, where Mother Teresa lived and worked. End your day with a delicious Bengali dinner.
Start early with a visit to the colorful flower market on the banks of the Hooghly River. Explore Kumartuli, the potters' quarter, where artisans make clay idols. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the airport. Fly to Delhi in the afternoon and check into your airport hotel. Have a farewell dinner and reflect on your Northeast India adventure.
