Welcome to the gateway of northeast India! Our representative will meet you at Guwahati airport and drive you to your riverside hotel. In the afternoon, visit the sacred Kamakhya Temple, perched on Nilachal Hill with beautiful views over the Brahmaputra River. Evening welcome dinner featuring traditional Assamese cuisine, where your guide will brief you about the exciting journey ahead.
After breakfast, drive to Nameri National Park (4 hours), stopping at roadside markets selling fresh pineapples and other local produce. Nameri sits at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, offering a completely different ecosystem from what you'll see later. Check into your riverside eco-camp, and take an evening nature walk with the resident naturalist, looking for hornbills returning to roost.
Early morning river rafting on the Jia-Bhoreli River, looking for the endangered Ibisbill and Great Hornbills. Your expert guide will help spot various wildlife along the riverbanks. After lunch, take a walking safari through the park with forest guards (one of few parks in India that allows this). Evening talk about tiger conservation in northeast India.
Morning bird watching around the camp - Nameri is home to over 300 bird species. After breakfast, drive to Kaziranga National Park (3 hours). En route, visit a tea garden to learn about tea production and enjoy a tasting session. Settle into your heritage tea bungalow accommodation. Evening orientation about Kaziranga's unique ecosystem and its famous one-horned rhinoceros.
Two full days exploring different ranges of Kaziranga. Start with an elephant-back safari at dawn - the best way to get close to rhinos in their natural habitat. Later jeep safaris take you through tall elephant grass and wetlands looking for tigers, wild elephants, and water buffalo. The park's varying habitats support an incredible diversity of wildlife. Visit the Kaziranga Orchid Park between safaris to see rare orchid species and meet local weavers. Your naturalist will explain how the annual Brahmaputra floods shape this unique ecosystem. Evening village walk to understand how local communities live alongside such large wildlife.
Final morning safari in Kaziranga before driving to Nimati Ghat (2 hours). Take a ferry to Majuli, the world's largest river island. Check into your traditional bamboo cottage. Afternoon cycle tour of the island, visiting ancient Vaishnavite monasteries (satras) and watching mask makers at work. Evening cultural performance of traditional Sattriya dance.
Morning bird watching - Majuli is a paradise for waterbirds. Visit local Mishing tribal villages to see traditional weaving and house construction techniques. After lunch, drive to Manas National Park (6 hours), a UNESCO World Heritage site on the Bhutan border. Evening briefing about the park's successful conservation story.
