Welcome to Delhi! On your first day, we'll help you settle in and get your bearings. You'll have time to rest and shake off any jet lag. On day two, we'll dive into the heart of India's capital. First stop: Akshardham Temple. This massive complex is a feast for the eyes with its intricate carvings and grand architecture. Next, we'll visit the Lotus Temple, a modern marvel that looks just like a giant lotus flower! In the afternoon, we'll step back in time as we explore Old Delhi. We'll visit the impressive Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then, we'll pop into Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques. To finish off, we'll wander through the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk, where you can soak up the sights, sounds, and smells of this lively market.
On day three, we'll head to Rishikesh, known as the world's yoga capital. Once we arrive, we'll join the evening Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat. This beautiful ceremony, where lamps are lit and offered to the river, is a must-see! Day four is all about embracing Rishikesh's spiritual and adventurous sides. Early risers can join a yoga class (optional). Later, you can choose to go white water rafting on the Ganges – it's a thrilling ride! In the afternoon, we'll visit the Beatles Ashram, where the famous band once stayed. On day five, we'll take a day trip to nearby Haridwar. This holy city is one of the seven holiest places for Hindus. The highlight will be witnessing the spectacular Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri ghat. The energy here is simply amazing!
We'll fly to Varanasi on day six. This ancient city is the spiritual heart of India. In the evening, we'll watch the mesmerising Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. The sight of hundreds of lamps floating on the river is unforgettable. Day seven starts with an early morning boat ride on the Ganges. You'll see pilgrims taking holy dips and morning rituals along the ghats. Later, we'll visit some of Varanasi's most important temples, including the golden Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Sankat Mochan Temple. In the afternoon, we'll take a short trip to nearby Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon.
On day eight, we'll drive to Bodh Gaya, one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. This is where Buddha attained enlightenment under the famous Bodhi Tree. We'll spend day nine exploring Bodh Gaya's spiritual treasures. We'll visit the beautiful Mahabodhi Temple and see the Bodhi Tree. Then, we'll check out some of the international Buddhist monasteries, each with its own unique architecture and atmosphere.
We'll fly to Kolkata on day ten. This city, once the capital of British India, is a fascinating mix of colonial history and Bengali culture. We'll visit the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, dedicated to the goddess Kali, and the peaceful Belur Math, headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission. On day eleven, we'll explore more of Kolkata. We'll wander through Kumartuli, where artisans make clay idols for festivals, and browse the book stalls of College Street. If you're up for an adventure, you can opt for a day trip to the Sundarbans, home to the famous Bengal tigers (extra cost).
On day twelve, we'll travel to Gangasagar, an island where the Ganges meets the Bay of Bengal. We'll visit the Kapil Muni Temple and learn about its legends. Day thirteen is all about enjoying the unique atmosphere of Gangasagar. The highlight will be watching the sun set over the point where the river meets the sea – it's a truly magical sight!
On our final day, we'll head back to Kolkata. You'll have some free time for last-minute shopping or relaxation before your flight home. As you leave, you'll take with you memories of an incredible journey along the mighty Ganges!
