Welcome to Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh! Our guide will meet you at the airport and drive you to your heritage hotel in the old city. In the evening, explore the bustling streets of old Bhopal, famous for its Islamic architecture and delicious street food. We'll enjoy a welcome dinner featuring local Bhopali cuisine, known for its unique blend of Muslim and Hindu influences.
Start your day with a visit to the prehistoric caves of Bhimbetka, showcasing rock paintings dating back 30,000 years. These fascinating paintings often depict wildlife that still roams these forests today. After lunch, visit the excellent Tribal Museum to understand the rich cultural heritage of central India's indigenous communities. Evening boat ride on Bhopal's beautiful lakes, watching marsh crocodiles and waterbirds.
Drive to Satpura National Park (4 hours), one of India's most unique tiger reserves. Unlike other parks, Satpura allows walking safaris, making wildlife viewing a more intimate experience. Over the next three days, enjoy various safari activities: Morning walking safaris with expert naturalists Afternoon jeep safaris in different zones Evening boat rides on Tawa Reservoir Night drives in the buffer zone Canoe rides along the Denwa River Your naturalist will help spot sloth bears, leopards, and maybe even the elusive Indian wild dog (dhole). The park's varied terrain supports rich birdlife, including hornbills and paradise flycatchers. Between safaris, enjoy your luxury lodge's facilities and attend talks about central Indian wildlife.
Morning boat safari before driving to Pench National Park (5 hours). This is the real 'Jungle Book' country - the forests that inspired Kipling's famous stories. Evening nature walk around your lodge, followed by a demonstration of tribal cooking methods using local ingredients.
Two full days exploring Pench with morning and afternoon jeep safaris. The park's teak forests and meadows support a healthy population of tigers, leopards, and wild dogs. Visit a local Gond tribal village between safaris to learn about their ancient connection with these forests. Your lodge offers excellent opportunities to learn about wildlife photography and conservation efforts in central India.
Drive to Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (4 hours), Maharashtra's oldest national park. Check into your comfortable jungle lodge. Afternoon village walk to see how local communities live alongside wildlife, followed by a visit to a pottery workshop where you can try your hand at traditional pottery.
Two days of wildlife viewing in Tadoba, known for its high tiger density and excellent sighting opportunities. The park's open terrain makes it easier to spot wildlife. Morning and afternoon safaris in different zones give you the best chances of seeing tigers, sloth bears, and gaur (Indian bison). Visit the local tribal market between safaris to experience rural Indian life.
Final morning safari in Tadoba. After lunch, drive to Nagpur (3 hours). Evening visit to the unique Nagpur Zero Mile Stone, marking the geographical centre of colonial India. Farewell dinner featuring local Maharashtrian specialities.
Transfer to Nagpur airport for your onward journey, taking with you memories of central India's wonderful wildlife and warm hospitality.
